Missouri’s claim to the oldest building goes to the historic French Creole gem, the Louis Bolduc House. Built around 1787 in Ste. Genevieve, it stands as a testament to the area’s early French colonial settlers. This poteaux-sur-sol (post-on-sill) house, constructed with upright posts supporting the structure, was the residence of Louis Bolduc, a French-Canadian fur trader. It remained in the Bolduc family for over 150 years.

Today, meticulously restored, the Louis Bolduc House operates as a museum. Visitors can explore the well-preserved rooms and learn about early French colonial life in Missouri. It’s a captivating glimpse into a bygone era.
